Centuries before the ‘invention’ of psychology, the poet John Donne already understood an important principle of psychology, it is not just us who influences society, society also influences us.

Back in June, I delivered one of my lived experience presentations to a group of around 30 people in Launceston. The talk was the last of three in different areas of the state. It was a cold and rainy Thursday night. I had been on the road for three nights, my morale was low and all I wanted to do was be at home with my family.

How do you heal after trauma? How do you even try to begin? Trauma comes in so many shapes and sizes, but for me it consists of 6 unsuccessful IVF cycles, years of heart break that ultimately resulted in one failed marriage. How do you pick yourself up after that? 

Imagine being born into a country where you are told from early childhood that you can be whatever you want to be.

I’m old enough to remember when a “click through” was what you did at the turnstile to get into the Royal Easter Show or cricket at the SCG. Yes, I grew up in Sydney. But now it has an entirely different meaning.

We hear the word inclusion bandied around a lot in business, but what does it actually mean and who are we including?

Neurodiversity, Urban Planning and Critical Mass

It is indisputable that when women are given responsibility and power, problems get solved. Women are more collegiate, compassionate, eco-minded and more likely to listen to a range of views. They are less inclined to force their views on a group and instead work towards a consensual approach. This is not true for all women, and the reverse is not true for all men, but it is a strongly researched truth across the genders.

Failure on the road to success is even more beneficial than immediate success.
